Mount Ellen North Summit Ridge

Mount Ellen North Summit Ridge Professional Review and Guide

"The North Summit Ridge of Mount Ellen has some of the most accessible ski touring in the Henry Mountains, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to get to. Roads are inaccessible when wet or snow covered; rocky, steep terrain abounds; and many miles must be traveled before you ever start skiing or snowboarding. The highest point in the Henry Mountains is located here on the North Summit Ridge yet is unnamed on topographic maps. Meanwhile, a smaller yet more prominent point to the north is graced with the moniker Mount Ellen Peak. It seems unfair, but if you want to make turns off the highest point in the Henrys, then Mount Ellen’s North Summit at an
elevation of 11,522 feet is your goal. The skiing and snowboarding is better here
anyway, as long slide paths spill down from the ridge all the way to Log Flat for up to
2500 vertical feet. These avalanche paths hold snow through late spring, so you can
ski thin ribbons of corn until summer."
