Hans Flat Road

Hans Flat Road Professional Review and Guide

"The Hans Flat Road is the major access to the remote Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. As a whole, the Maze receives a fraction of the visitors that the more accessible Island in the Sky and Needles District do, but it is no less spectacular. This graded dirt road is open year-round, as it is the primary access for the national park rangers who live at the remote Hans Flat Ranger Station.

It may become temporarily impassable after heavy rain or snow. In dry weather it is accessible to passenger vehicles, but all trails within the Maze District, including the Flint Trail, past the ranger station require a high-clearance 4WD. Special Attractions: Access to Canyonlands National Park Maze District; Access to historic Robbers Roost area; Remote, lightly traveled route. This trail is graded dirt but suitable for a normal passenger vehicle. It usually has gentle grades, is fairly wide, and has very shallow water crossings (if any)."
