San Refael Reef, Crack Canyon, Muddy Creek, and Devils Canyon WSAs Trails Professional Review and Guide

"This chapter describes the four San Rafael Swell wilderness study areas that are located south of I-70. Madame Curie’s uranium came from nearby Temple Mountain. These ruins and other mining debris scattered around the swell are dangerous to explore. Signs warning of cave-ins and explosives are posted near some of the larger abandoned mines.

Drinking water is available at the Goblin Valley State Park Ranger Station. Take adequate drinking water with you for any expedition into the San Rafael Swell area. Even after filtering, some of the water sources in the wilderness study areas are not potable because of high mineral content. This trail guide includes descriptions of Straight Wash, Eardley Canyon, Crack Canyon and Environs, and Muddy Creek, The Chute."
