"Beyond the confines of Utah’s national parks are hundreds of outstanding canyons that rival those within the parks in their drama and beauty. And among these many canyons, Grand Gulch is one of the finest. Grand Gulch is not only one of the most beautiful canyons in the Glen Canyon region, with its well-developed riparian oases and sculpted sandstone walls; it also has one of the greatest concentrations of archaeological resources in a single canyon on the Colorado Plateau."

The trail down Kane Gulch starts with a trek across the mesa before dropping into the gulch and descending several pouroffs. There are a couple tight spots before you get deep into lower Kane Gulch. We did not see any ruins before Junction Ruin, which is located where Kane opens into Grand Gulch. You should venture on down Grand Gulch for a longer day-hike or for an overnight trip if possible. There is a camp at the junction and in normal times Junction Spring provides water, but it was dry while we were there. Be sure to bring a filter for water in the dry season.
