Portal Professional Review and Guide

"This strenuous uphill hike leads to a spectacular viewpoint above vertical cliffs overlooking Moab and the Colorado River Canyon. The Portal Overlook Trail, while strenuous and mostly uphill, follows a good trail to one of the most spectacular scenic viewpoints in the Moab area.

The trail, one of the hardest in this book, is hot in summer but lies in the shade of tall cliffs in the late afternoon. It ends at an unfenced overlook above a 300-foot-high cliff. Watch children on the cliff edge. Mountain bikers also use the trail for a quick descent route from the Poison Spider Mesa trails above."
