Franks Canyon and Sand Wash Trail

Franks Canyon and Sand Wash Trail Professional Review and Guide

"At the east end of Nine Mile Canyon Trail, head north into Franks Canyon. The primitive trail runs along the stony surface of the canyon floor as it crisscrosses through the wash. The tall canyon walls seem to close in on you as you drive along this impressive section of narrow track. Make sure you check the weather before driving this trail, as the canyon floods after heavy rains.

Special Attractions: Riverside access to the Green River; Driving through Franks Canyon and along Sand Wash; Access from the north to the eastern end of Nine Mile Canyon Trail. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."
