Like all slot canyons, the one that the Kanarra Creek Trail runs through is pretty cool. It is even more so than many because water ?ows through it, and it is less well known than the more famous ones in nearby Zion National Park, so your chances for a little solitude are greater. But this very nice hike with its showcase of classic slot scenery does indeed attract people, so be prepared to share. The most famous part of this area is Zion National Park, which is lauded for its gorgeous water-filled canyon known as The Narrows and the striking sand-stone beauty of the main canyon. Since the park is on the world’s radar, it sees about 3 million visitors per year. But the topography of southwest Utah ranges from these red canyons to snow-covered mountain peaks, deep gorges slashed through the earth, amphitheaters bristling with hoodoo spires, and sandstone twisted by wind and pushed apart by ice, wedging it into shapes that stir the imagination. The variety of hikes easily accessible within a day’s drive is as astonishing as the differences in the landscape.
