Wedge Overlook and Buckhorn Draw Drive

Wedge Overlook and Buckhorn Draw Drive Professional Review and Guide

"This tour (best enjoyed in spring or fall) goes through outstanding sandstone scenery in the San Rafael Swell, a massive blister in the Earth’s crust and one of Utah’s most dramatic geologic features.

The Little Grand Canyon, viewed from the Wedge Overlook, ranks among Utah’s most spectacular sights. You also can see prehistoric roadside rock art and, if you take the full scenic loop around Jackass Benches, gaze down into the San Rafael River’s awesome Lower Black Box, an exceptionally narrow, dark gorge."

10/5/2007 directions very complete and easy to follow. Graded gravel road is in good shape - could easily maintain 35 mph speed over it. Turnoff to Wedge Overlook is well marked. Storm was coming in from the southwest and wind was so strong that I had to hold on to my camera tripod to keep the wind from blowing it over. Departed Wedge Overlook so that I could get back to the paved road at Castle Dale before the rain reached to area.
this is a very beautiful and large area! it is very desolate and well worth a trip to explore. i camped here for three days and did not have nowhere near enough time to see it all...from petroglyphs to canyons and senic mesas and mountains, there is something for everyone here!it is a couple of hours out of castle dale, utah{east centeral}and covers a vast area of senic wonder..i would highly recoment the san rafael swell area to anyone that enjoys the outdoors!
