The Gulch to Lamanite Arch

The Gulch to Lamanite Arch Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A rewarding backpacking trip into one of the many long tributaries to the Escalante River, the Gulch is born on the flanks of Boulder Mountain and cuts a dramatic sandstone gorge for 25 miles. This fine trip traverses the upper Gulch from Burr Trail Road to the unique span of Lamanite Arch, following an open canyon embraced by fluted orange cliffs of Wingate Sandstone and the multihued clay beds of the Chinle Formation.

Good campsites are situated in cottonwood groves and in the pinyon-juniper woodlands throughout the course of the Gulch. A reliable year-round water source is located midway to the arch at Water Canyon, and during wet seasons intermittent water often flows in the Gulch and in the canyon of Lamanite Arch."
