Woodenshoe - Peavine Loop

Woodenshoe - Peavine Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This ambitious loop is perhaps the finest and most rewarding backpacking trip in Dark Canyon. The trip surveys the spectrum of upper Dark Canyon landscapes, from cool conifer-clad plateaus to deep and narrow canyons, and from riparian oases to long stretches of bone-dry wash. The potential for camping is almost unlimited throughout the trip, and you may choose sites ranging from those in the pinyon-juniper woodland to those in cool stands of ponderosa pine.

Although much of the trip follows a good (though very sand) trail, the way between Rig Canyon and upper Peavine Canyon follows Peavine Corridor Road for 6.2 miles. This corridor through the Dark Canyon Wilderness allows vehicular access into Peavine Canyon, Rig Canyon, and Scorup Cabin. Since vehicles, primarily OHVs, occasionally use this 4WD road , it is possible but not very likely for hikers to have the silence and solitude disrupted."
