Grizzly Gulch and Patsey Marley

Grizzly Gulch and Patsey Marley Professional Review and Guide

"Grizzly Gulch is a legend of Alta backcountry skiing. It is the site of the iconic Chads Gap, where pro skiers earn fame and ski movie segments by jumping the 130-foot span between two piles of mine tailings. Grizzly is also a highly developed touring area, with homes at the bottom, powerlines above, and a snowcat track running the length of the gulch, where Nordic skiers get a workout. Despite all this, Grizzly Gulch accesses a vast backcountry area from Twin Lakes Pass between Alta and Brighton, with Patsey Marley at its head. There is a proposal to put a chairlift up Grizzly Gulch to connect Alta to Solitude. If this comes to pass, it will drastically change backcountry skiing in the area."
