Lone Peak via Jacobs Ladder

Lone Peak (via Jacobs Ladder) Professional Review and Guide

"The toughest, and perhaps the most rewarding, of these 60 hikes. A Lone Peak ascent demands a long, dry, steep approach into a beautiful rock bowl surrounded by towering cliffs. The final climb to the summit over massive rock slabs offers spectacular views."

This hike is a real workout! The views are beautiful right from the beginning of the very steep climb. Plan on finding your own way for much of the second half of the hike, since granite boulders don't hold a trail very well. I bumped into a rattlesnake on Jacob's Ladder, so watch your step. I also broke my thumb when a couple of boulders rolled with me while coming back down The Chimney. Watch out for loose rocks! Despite the little misadventure, this was one of the top ten hikes of my life. I'm not particularly afraid of heights, but the top of the peak was good for an adrenaline rush.

This is a spectacular hike, popular from snow melt to first snow. Once you ascend to the lake, the trail follows a gentle slope up a wide glacier carved meadow. As you approach the lower falls, the trail gets very steep. From the lower to the upper falls the trail stays steep, often narrow and rocky. The steepness will be tough on younger children, but overall any ascent of this canyon is worth it

I was too wordy on my last review Great hike, Easy access. Starts out gradual and gets steeper as you go up. Many granite boulders in the trail. Goes along a beautiful stream. Took us 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to the waterfall. Trail gets a little rough with the boulders but no scrambling involved. Take your camera, water, energy bars and go in the morning.
