Lake Whitney State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A great photo op for sunsets, great blue herons, and even redheaded turkey vultures soaring above.
The surrounding rolling ranchland does not really prepare you for this lake, with 23,550 surface acres and 70 tent sites to choose from. As you pass the entrance station on the Prairies and Pineywoods Wildlife Trail West, proceed straight for 0.4 mile until you turn right at the Horseshoe Loop. The tent sites begin at 18, with covered picnic tables on the even-numbered side, which backs up to a heavily wooded area. Continue on the loop road until you see sites 39–46, which have nice tree cover and a little extra distance from the RV area."
