Lake Mineral Wells Trailway Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The name of the original railway company that financed the construction of what is known today as Lake Mineral Wells Trailway was so long it required immediate abbreviation upon establishment. The Weatherford, Mineral Wells & Northwestern Railway Company, shortened to WMW&NW (although still a mouthful), was chartered in 1889. With $500,000 in capital, the company built a 25-mile railroad line between Weatherford and Mineral Wells.
Two years later the company owned two locomotives and ninety cars. Four years later the company earned around $15,000 in passenger revenue and about $38,000 in freight. It was sold shortly thereafter to the Texas and Pacific Railway Company."
