Pitcher Plant Trail

Pitcher Plant Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The short but fascinating Pitcher Plant Trail is located in the Turkey Creek Unit of the Big Thicket preserve. Getting there can be somewhat of a challenge, as Pin Oak Road is not paved and becomes extremely slippery with mud when wet. But the rewards are worth the effort.

The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)- accessible trail is predominantly composed of a boardwalk that elevates hikers a foot or so above a soggy wetland savannah. This savannah, much like others once scattered across the region, formed in a depression where a significant amount of rainwater accumulates."

The big reason I gave this trail a 4 star is I finally got to see the pitcher plants in bloom. That is a big deal for me because I have always wanted to see it. the trail is very easy except for a tree that fell over the trail. Just have to clilmb through it. But for me the big deal was going 1/4 mile out on the board walk, going counter clockwize to see the pitcher plants. They were just coming up on 3/18 with a few in bloom. I think this is pretty early for them to bloom .
