It's less than an hour's drive from San Antonio to Bandera, a small town with the look and feel of the Old West. Bandera is surrounded by working and guest ranches, where cookouts, rodeos, and trail rides are a part of everyday life. Bandera also sits on the edge of a remote and magnificent part of Texas. The Hill Country stretch between Medina and Vanderpool. As a result, this is a very difficult, and rewarding, ride. Terrain: hilly to mountainous, very difficult. Road: Light traffic on FM roads. Some traffic on Texas 16 (used for 2.6 miles). The return from Utopia to Bandera is very lightly traveled, almost isolated.
