Abilene State Park

Abilene State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Located at the crossroads of Texas history, Abilene State Park is surrounded by low limestone hills in a rugged area used first by the Tonkawa and Comanches to hunt buffalo and later by Texas cowboys leading cattle drives on the Goodnight-Loving Trail.

On your way to the park, a stop at the restored Buffalo Gap Historic Village takes you back in time to an era when tent camping was not recreation but a requirement for traveling across the vastness of West Texas, including a stop on the legendary Butterfield stage route."
