After leaving the scenic Davis Mountains, the highway returns to the wide-open, hot, and very dry expanses of West Texas only to be interrupted by a hidden oasis that surprises even a well traveled tent camper. As you approach the entrance station, there is little to indicate a special location other than a full parking lot, bathing suits and swimmers of every size and shape, and panel trucks from scuba shops all over Texas. This small state park is home to San Solomon Springs and has provided life-saving water to Native Americans, Spanish explorers, frontier soldiers, and myriad Texas travelers.
