This trail might surprise Central Texas hikers used to the limestone and cedar of the Hill Country. You will pass through dense hardwood savanna and traverse open areas over-looking sleepy inlets to reach a fishing camp in a green glade that feels a long way from the demands of civilization. The combination of moist surroundings and rich bottomland is reminiscent of eastern forests. Granger Lake, formed by a dam on the San Gabriel River, is rimmed with willow, not cypress, and the bottomland is covered with oak, elm, cottonwood, hackberry, and pecan trees. There are some lovely views of the leafy San Gabriel Valley from Farm to Market Road 1331 as you approach the park.
