Armand Bayou Nature Center: Martyn and Karankawa Trails Professional Review and Guide
"The Martyn and Karankawa trails are two trails combined into one hike. Although they run parallel to each other, they are very different trails. The Martyn Trail is narrower and goes into deeper woods, whereas the Karankawa Trail runs along the edge of a bayou. Combined, they make a fine hike of almost 3 miles, with helpful signage and rest benches along the way. The Armand Bayou Nature Center has been designated as one of only four Texas Coastal Preserves and is one of the largest bayous in the Houston area that is not channeled. It includes three different ecosystems: bayou, forest, and tall-grass prairie."

This natural area has bogs, meadows, forest and a waterway that probably looks like a lot of Houston bayous used to look. Despite lots of people using the park the trails still felt uncrowded. Love to go back.
