Another hidden gem in the Texas State Park system lies off the beaten tourist path, but should not be missed by avid tent campers. Located on the south shore of Cooper Lake, the South Sulphur Unit offers the usual park activities, but the huge, 19,300-acre lake and more than 25 miles of shoreline give a wilderness feel to all visitors, but especially the tent camper. After leaving the entrance station, the park road winds through thick stands of oak trees and rolling hills.
