OP Schnabel Park, Leon Creek Vista Trail

O.P. Schnabel Park, Leon Creek Vista Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This park is popular and at first seems quite urban, but it is easy to spot wildlife, even on the main, paved trail. This hike barely scratches the surface of the park’s 202 acres and 4.5 miles of official trail, but the unpaved trails are not marked (and overuse has created many rogue trails), so it is hard to describe a set route in the back part of the park.

If you have time and you and your pooch are up for it, you can wander the back part of the park for hours, on everything from narrow, steep trails scrambling down hillsides, to open grassy areas, wide dirt paths through tall trees, and the rocky creekbed with a cliff on one side—in short, a veritable noodle bowl of trails crisscrossing the park, which is hemmed by neighborhoods on two sides and the Alamo Country Club golf course behind (in other words, just walk long enough and you will eventually come to one of these boundaries and can follow it around to the main park area). Just keep eyes and ears open for joggers and mountain bikers."
