The Savannah Loop in the front country of Government Canyon State Natural Area is one of the tamer trails in this state natural area. This is a good hike for families. The trail parallels Government Canyon Creek for the first third, and then goes through meadows and woods. A mix of single- and double-track sections adds interest to the hike. Among the animals and birds calling the park home, coyotes, wild hogs, turkeys, venomous and nonvenomous snakes are the most likely to be seen.
