If you want to walk all the way through the Guadalupe Mountains, this is the shortest route and easiest route with the least possible elevation gain, mainly because the Dog Canyon Trailhead is at a fairly high elevation (6,290 feet). Regrettably, however, it involves a difficult shuttle. It will be worth the money or humility. This is a great trip. You can make this a long day hike, but you'll probably enjoy it more as an overnighter.
