Start the Sand Branch Loop hike on FS 211, hiking past information signs to a hiker sign on the right side of the road. Go into the trees, following white trail markers. This is a 4-footwide dirt trail with tall loblolly pines and low forest-floor foliage. Continue as the trail heads downhill over exposed roots. Watch your footing at all times. There is a creek on your right and forest on your left. The middle of the trail has been washed out, so the ground is very uneven. As the trail goes uphill, the washedout section ends, making for easier footing.
