Rancherías Loop Professional Review and Guide
"The Rancherías Loop Trail passes through two desert canyons, past two reliable springs, and over ridges and mesas. The terrain is very rough, with some steep climbs. Other than at the trailheads, the trail is generally marked only by rock cairns. This is a trail for experienced desert hikers in good physical condition who can read topographic maps and use a compass. Three days and two nights are recommended for the trip, although strong hikers can do it in two days. When the trail is broken into three segments, the daily mileage averages 6.9 miles, considered short for many backpackers. The terrain, however, demands extra time and energy. People who have required rescue on this trail have usually gotten into trouble because they overestimated their ability and underestimated the terrain. This is not a trail for beginning desert hikers."
