Silence, isolation, and tremendous views of the dramatic caprock scenery are reasons enough to make your way out to Quitaque and take a spin on the bike. In addition to the Quitaque Canyon Rails to Trails, there are two separate loops in Caprock Canyons State Park that deserve your attention; both offer awesome vistas and a few technical challenges. In some places, this trail is not much of a trail. It’s fairly easy to wander off the main path, since it’s not marked the whole way around. But, much like the riding in Big Bend Ranch State Park, the reason to ride this trail is to commune with the natural surroundings, not to have an “extreme MTB” experience. Your efforts will be rewarded not only with amazing views but also with a sense of completed adventure upon arriving back at the trailhead. But the views! Like its neighbor, Palo Duro Canyon, Caprock Canyons State Park boasts scenery so splendid as to be fairly incongruous with the part of the state it calls home. Tread: Mostly doubletrack, some singletrack.
