"Palacios, founded in 1903, maintains an attractive waterfront with picnic tables, lighted fishing piers, public boat ramps, and a 1.5-mile railed walkway that offers good birding. This site is included as six separate sites on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.
Key birds: Brown Pelican, Neotropic Cormorant, White and Whitefaced Ibis, Reddish Egret, Roseate Spoonbill, Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, Mottled Duck, White-tailed Hawk, Crested Caracara, Black Rail, and Seaside Sparrow are present year-round. Anhinga, Least Bittern, Magnificent Frigatebird, Wood Stork, Fulvous Whistling-Duck, Least and Black Terns, Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Couch’s Kingbird, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Painted Bunting, and Dickcissel occur in summer. American White Pelican, Osprey, Peregrine Falcon, Yellow Rail, Short-eared Owl, and Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow can usually be found in winter."
