Rio Grande Trail and Hawk Tower Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Bentsen–Rio Grande Valley State Park is a charming slice of remnant Rio Grande floodplain forest, and more than 300 species of birds call its environs home, including the spectacular green jay.
While small—only 760 acres—its avian-friendly habitat is augmented by another 1700 acres of federal wildlife refuge lands that lie adjacent to it. In addition, Bentsen–Rio Grande is the heart and headquarters of the World Birding Center, an internationally renowned institute that administrates a system of hundreds of birding sites along the coastal regions of Texas. From the Tamaulipas crow to the ferruginous pygmy-owl, a life list’s worth of songbirds, shore birds, hummers, and raptors can be spotted at the various designated viewing points along the vast route."
