Multi-use, mainly equestrian trail in a very nice campground offers a good ride for beginning mountain bikers. The Cross Timbers is a pretty nice trail. It’s not so challenging—not at all— and it’s not so long, but Lake Mineral Wells State Park is a pretty, quiet chunk of land, the camping facilities are quite nice, and it’s a great spot to bring the family or the newbie buddies for an easy, enjoyable ride. Just make sure you ride here during a dry spell. Unlike most other parks in the area, Lake Mineral Wells does not close its trails after a rain—and staff probably won’t tell you what kind of condition this trail’s in either. So when I say that this place is no fun in the mud, I speak from experience. Tread: Mostly doubletrack.
