As with any ride in Big Bend National Park, the draw here is the scenery and the chance to view it from the seat of a bicycle. In springtime this ride is absolutely stunning, the desert floor carpeted with wildflowers and the Rattlesnake Mountains looming dry and forbidding to the west. This one’s more a road than a trail, really, but it’s too rough for a road bike and too beautiful to see from inside a car. The wide gravel road is a pretty decent surface for the most part. It’s raked fairly smooth and host to enough traffic to keep too much big stuff from accumulating, though the inevitable washboards will get you shaking sooner or later. Tread: Improved jeep road.
