Well, there was a small sign at the trailhead stating that the trail was closed due to "emergency conditions", but the trailhead was not otherwise blocked and there had been hikers logging in recently. About halfway along the route my wife and I discovered what must have been the "emergency conditions. Due to Hurricane Rita there were a substantial number of trees down and though most had been cleared from the trail, there was one area where we had to detour around the trail due to large fallen trees. If you want to get an appreciation forhow powerful the storm was you can see from this trail many large oaks blown over and pine trees snapped off. It is an enjoyable short hike. Mark
