Beaver Slide Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Beavers are some of the most entertaining animals to watch. They will often ponder a hiker with intent, especially one willing to sit quietly and ponder patiently back. Watching a beaver in its native habitat is a lot like watching your favorite house cat transformed; a critter skittish yet irritatingly nonchalant with the grace and agility of a sleek, wet Olympian.
The Beaver Slide Trail, a loop that follows a series of ponds created by old beaver dams, provides a great opportunity to enjoy the beaver’s home antics. In fact, the Beaver Slide Trail highlights some of the most compelling aspects of the Big Thicket National Preserve, including its swampy interior, shadowy wildlife, and a collapsing canopy hung with draping moss. The damp habitat means that unless you are visiting on cold winter days, be prepared for mosquitoes."
