Friedrich Wilderness Park Professional Review and Guide
"Located at the northern edge of San Antonio, Friedrich Wilderness Park offers easy access to two specialty birds of the Texas Hill Country: Black-capped Vireo and Golden-cheeked Warbler. The vireo is rare, but an active habitat restoration program is under way to enhance its essential habitat. The 232-acre park contains nearly 5 miles of trails, some of which pass through a relatively undisturbed juniper-oak community.
Key birds: Greater Roadrunner, Golden-fronted Woodpecker,
Western Scrub-Jay, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, and Lesser Goldfinch are present year-round. Chuck-will’s-widow, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Black-capped Vireo, and Golden-cheeked Warbler occur in summer. There are no key birds in winter. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, a detailed map, and helpful general information."
