Lower Shutup Professional Review and Guide
"The Solitario is a giant collapsed dome on the east side of the state park, Although it looks like a giant impact crater caused by something from space, it was caused by a dome that was pushed up by a large granite laccolith from underneath. Volcanic activity left a collapsed caldera within the Solitario. With time erosion has carved the tilted-up beds of the dome and cut deep canyons into its wall. One of the canyons, the Lower Shutup, drains much of the southern side of the Solitario."
