The Wolf Mountain Trail is a Hill Country classic. Pass through scrubland, dense cedar woodlands, and valley vistas while wrapping around Wolf Mountain. Wind along the small canyons created by Mescal and Tobacco Creeks, with stunning views of the Pedernales River valley. Cross Bee Creek, a small seasonal creek, and look to the left for views of the steep canyon walls that line the creek. The water cascading over the limestone creek bottom adds a special touch. The trail has a number of short spurs that reach the bluffs overlooking the creeks. Dogs love this park. Start at the trailhead adjacent to the Wolf Mountain Trail parking area. Bear left and initially head east, but you’ll soon start meandering as the trail hugs the contour of the hills. With less than a 300-foot rise in elevation, this is not conventional mountain hiking. There are mile markers every half-mile; some of the park signs were made by Eagle Scouts.
