Memorial Park is a green oasis in the middle of Houston, the country’s fourth-largest city, and while much of it is heavily used and often crowded, time it right and you may have these trails almost to yourself. Half a dozen routes snake through a forested area bounded by Memorial Drive, the Southern Pacific Railroad, and Buffalo Bayou.

The trail has been shortened, I am not sure why but it may be due to wash outs from recent heavy rain. We only ran into 3 bikers on the trail. The heavy canopy of trees keeps you in the shade 95% of the time. Be sure to bring lots of water, you will sweat! The hike was kind of short so we also went down the orange and red trail that explore more of the interior of the park that the purple trails loops around.
