Guadalupe South River Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The Canyon Lake Tailrace offers anglers the best fly-fishing in the state and hikers a quiet
getaway through the woods along the Guadalupe River. The walk offers a chance to learn
the names of various species of riparian flora."
--Charlie Llewellin and Johnny Molloy, 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: San Antonio & Austin (Menasha Ridge Press).
The trail is very scenic and it is an easy hike. Some of the trail is in need of attention. The creek was dry, but there were lot of cool rock formations to look at.
This hike had everything: water crossings, beautiful grotos with ferns, cliffs, flat prairie sections... all within a 3mi loop and so close to home. I can't believe I've lived here 16 years, and never hiked this trail before. I will surely go back; this time, with a camera to capture some great shots of the waterfalls.
