Palmetto Cruise Professional Review and Guide
"The unique history of Gonzales is preserved today in points of interest along an extensive trail through town that includes historic homesites, buildings, and parks. "Come and Take It Days" celebrations and nearby Recreation areas and parks make Gonzales an interesting place to visit. One of these parks, Palmetto State Park, is the destination for this Cruise, which leaves from Gonzales. The small palmetto palms in the park are one of the many rare species of plant life found in this quiet and lush setting. Because of the diverse vegetation in the park it is also an exceptional birding spot, with over 240 species sighted within the park or immediately surrounding the area. Terrain: rolling hills. Road: St. Lawrence St. and US 183 through town have wide lanes but no shoulders. US 90 and US 183 near the state park have high speed traffic but extra-wide shoulders. FM roads and Park Rd. 11 are two lanes, no shoulder, light traffic."
