60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Dallas/ Fort Worth
by Joanie Sanchez (Menasha Ridge Press)
A surprisingly charming hike down a rural path running alongside Waxahachie Creek and ending at the remnants of the historic Interurban Railway. The lush, green setting and abundance of bird boxes make this trail a must-visit for birders.
Best Hikes Near Dallas/Fort Worth
by Kathryn Hopper (Falcon Guides)
This relatively flat, 5-mile out-and-back trail winds along a creek by horse pastures and features remnants of an abandoned railway. Its smooth, wide surface makes it a great choice for families with strollers or people in wheelchairs. The trail also features a peek at the elaborate pink granite and Red Pecos sandstone turrets of the Ellis County Courthouse. Because much of the trail is shaded, it’s suitable even on sweltering summer days.
The city and a couple volunteers have added 5 miles of mountain bike trails along the creek. The trails are growing steadily each month and the conditions improving. You should check it out.
