Oak Bayou Loop

Oak Bayou Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Take a walk along the bayous and tidal flats of Galveston on the Oak Bayou Loop. This loop uses three trails—the Clapper Rail Trail, Heron’s Walk, and Egret Loop— to take you over some beautiful wide bayous, through the salt marsh, and to an area where a wetland restoration project is under way.

The trail is strewn with wildfl owers of all types. Indian blanket, or fi rewheels, with their distinctive red petals with yellow tips brighten up the greens and browns of the marsh. There are also many prickly pear cactuses along the trail bed adorned with big purple bulbs on their pads, waiting to explode into colorful flowers in the summer."
