Water Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"Friedrich Wilderness Park lies on the edge of the Edwards Plateau, a region of central Texas known as much for its controversy as for its beauty. This area is the recharge zone for massive underground aquifers responsible for feeding the myriad springs in the region (and the city of San Antonio’s drinking water needs) and is also endangered species country. The region’s karst geology is responsible for both the abundance of its aquifer waters and its unique but threatened wildlife. The ground is honeycombed with caves, grottos, and sinkholes that allow falling rainwater to settle deep beneath the often shallow soil by traveling through a maze of cracks and crevices in limestone beds."
