WE got rained out of our Guadalupe mountain trip, so we headed south to the Davis Mountains. Although it was cloudy we didn't see any rain. we decided to take a short hike along the trail that leads from Davis Mountain State Park to Ft. Davis. We took the leg that went from the scenic overlook back down to the campground. We basically hike down and then back up by the same trail. Great scenery. Miles and miles of vistas in all directions. Great view of the University of Texas McDonald Observatory in the distance.

This trail can start at Fort Davis or at Davis State Park from one to the other. There are all kinds of plants to see along the way plus a lot of different views. It's great for one, two, or the whole family.
