When Moses Austin and his son, Stephen Austin, secured the right to settle American immigrants in Texas, one condition was that at least 300 families must settle in the lands of their grant. The "original 300" of Austin's families grew into the present-day communities found within the borders of what was then known as Austin's Colony. This route passes through a handful of the settlements of the original 300 that are immediately west of Austin's first colonial capital. Terrain: gently rolling terrain through pastureland.
