This trail is known as both the Top of Burro Mesa Pour-off Trail and the Upper Burro Mesa Trail. The trail to the top of the Burro Mesa Pour-off is relatively easy physically, but it does require some route-finding skill. A topographic map and compass and/or a GPS unit would be good insurance for this hike. Most of the hike follows desert washes where there is no formal trail, and rock cairns may wash away in floods. Although the route is primitive, most of the walking is easy, except for a few rock scrambles early in the hike. Although canyon walls create some shade, especially toward the end of the hike, this is a very hot walk in summer. Take plenty of water.
