Las Palomas Wildlife Management Area (WMA) comprises a series of several state hunting areas scattered through the Rio Grande Valley, primarily set aside for dove hunting (paloma is the Spanish word for “dove ”) but rewarding for nonhunters, too. The Longoria Unit, just minutes from U.S.Highway 77, makes a quick, easy first stop for birders entering the Valley from the north —especially worthwhile for people with limited mobility.
