Devils River State Natural Area is undeveloped, thus no picnic tables, concessions, or amenities. Its “natural area” designation requires that it remain so. It is also a long way from the nearest town, more due to drive time along the 22-mile Dolan Creek Road than the mileage. That, in and of itself, should be the reason to pay a visit. Better yet, the natural area claims a remarkably isolated and beautiful slice of the Devils River, one of the finest ribbons of fresh spring water in one of the most desolate parts of the state. And I mean that in a good way.
