Walnut Grove Trail

Walnut Grove Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This 5-mile, out-and-back trail hugs the south shore of Lake Grapevine, offering stunning views and surprising solitude. The upper part of the trail runs through woods and the lower part goes along the shoreline. The trail is open to horses and closed to mountain bikers, but they sometimes can’t resist, so be prepared to see a few fat tire marks along with tracks of armadillos, possums, and the occasional coyote."

"This 3-mile trail hugs the south shore of Lake Grapevine, offering stunning views and surprising solitude. The first part of the trail is through woods; the second part is along the shoreline. The trail is open to horses and restricted to mountain bikers, but they sometimes can’t resist. Be prepared to see a few fat tire marks along with tracks of armadillos, opossums, and the occasional coyote. A series of interconnecting loops make it easy to shorten or lengthen this hike along the shore of Lake Grapevine. Despite being a few miles west of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the park feels very remote. For simplicity, this trail hugs the shoreline of Lake Grapevine and the lake’s sandy beach can provide a good workout and somewhat muddy shoes, depending on recent rainfall." Read more

"This trail appeals to hikers looking for a quiet, peaceful walk with plenty of solitude. Although frequented by local horse owners, trail traffic is very light. Several loops to the water’s edge offer opportunities to explore the wild shoreline." Read more

Walked around the short loop that goes north to the lake and then turns east and meanders alongside the lake before turning south and then back west. Northern parts of trail are narrow and overgrown. Walked this in the afternoon so it was a little warm but would be nicer earlier in the morning.
