Daingerfield State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The endangered red-cockaded woodpecker has been known to nest in this area.

Deep in the piney woods of Northeast Texas, it is easy to imagine the local Caddo Indians traveling along pathways used for centuries to trade with the Choctaw, Cherokee, and the newly arrived European explorers. This popular transportation route was known as the Caddo Trace and was also used for stage routes and mail routes. It was also traveled during the Civil War."
