North Padre Island Professional Review and Guide
"God might help you out here, but most of the mortals you meet are going to look at you like you’re either completely nuts or you’re an illegal alien. The only other cyclists I have ever seen on this beach were up from the south, the Mexican south. They ride up the beach as a sneaky way into the U.S. Be nice to them if you see them; they have to ride a hundred miles of this crap to work 12 hours a day or more for pennies, until the INS catches them and sends them home. Please understand this is not South Padre Island, “the Spring Break island,” this is North Padre Island.
This ride is near Corpus Christi. But not one you just whip over and do and then go home. You’d better be on a mission. Both your life and your sanity will be at stake. And you had better really love sand. Sand in your eyes and ears, sand in your food, shorts, chain, shifters, sand in your sleeping bag. You gotta love it."
